North Carolina Tar Heels (+11 pt DOG) @ #6 South Carolina Gamecocks...
Gamecock Fans,,,,,, THIS IS YOUR YEAR!!!...... (Ever heard that before???….loll)……It does look like the planets are lining up for the Gamecocks to make a run on the national scene. However, JadeveonClowney, the Gamecock defense, Conner Shaw and Mike Davis must stay healthy for that to happen. And if they do, then, the sky is the limit…… Just for the record---I’m glad to see Clowney return to college football this year. Also, I’m glad to see that he purchased a $5million insurance policy to protect himself against future earnings lost due to injury….(BTW - $5million is the maximum allowable amount of coverage a player can get according to the rules of the NCAA)…..And just in case you were wondering,,,,, Marcus Lattimore did in fact have a policy in place for $1.8Million when he suffered his nasty knee injury against Tenn. last year…The only reason I don’t have this game a blow out is because #1 Larry Fedora is a hell of a coach at North Carolina and #2 there’s absolutely no way that the Gamecocks aren’t thinking about the Georgia game next week!!!...But, at the end of the day, the Gamecocks win and cover 33-21!!!
Ole Miss Rebels (-3.5 pt FAV) @ Vanderbilt Commodores…..
I can tell Vanderbilt’s football program is getting a lot better….They just had their first star player, Chris Boyd, get suspended for sexual assault in the off season!!!……Man, that’s got to be exciting for all you die hard Commodore football fans!!!!...Your first thug football player!!!...Watch Out Miami Hurricanes! Vandy is coming for your title……lollll…….Ole Miss Fans; I know you guys are excited for 2013!!!! Bullied ole Bully last year, dominating in your bowl win over Pittsburgh, Top 5 recruiting class, 8 offensive starters returning and one of them happens to be Big Bo Wallace and his 3,000 yard arm, 10 defensive starters returning and all signs point to a great hire with Coach Freeze…WOW!!!...Ole Miss a 3.5pt FAV?....I don’t even see this game being close. In fact, the only sexual assault charge we will hear about after this game is the one the Rebels might be facing after wearing out the Commodore’s booty Thursday night!!!....Ole Miss wins big and covers big 33-21!!!
JIMBO's FREE SEC COLLEGE FOOTBALL PICKS
"With advice this bad, you have to give it away!!!"
Week One – Saturday Action – SEC-2013
Rice Owls (+ 26.5 pt DOG) @ #7 Texas A&M Aggies…..
Hello, my name is Johnny “CASH” Manziel…….”I hear that train a rollin’, it’s rollin’ around the bend, I haven’t signed an autograph,,,,,, since,,, I don’t know when, I’m stuck in college station, and time keeeeps draggggggin’ on…” Johnny Football is truly “The Man in Black”!!!!! Well, according to his personal accountant, Nate Fitch…..Johnny Football is sick and tired of reading stories about his “Off- the- Field” play and now he’s ready to read some stories about his “On-the-Field” play…Manziel is back and he’s ready to kick ass and chew bubble gum----and he’s all out of bubble gum!!!...The Owl’s will score on this inexperience Aggie “D”, but, it will “not” compare to the offensive bombs that the Aggies’s will be dropping on the Owl’s defense!...The Aggies win but do not cover 48-28!!!
Toledo Rockets (+24 pt DOG) @ #10 Florida Gators…….
Folks, this isn’t the Steve Spurrier’s Gators of old…..It’s more like the Bear Bryant’s Bama of Old….This is a “Defensive Power” team….Coach Will Muschamp is all about the “D” plus he’s mean, nasty and probably needs a few angry management classes…..His Gator defense is bad-to-the-bone!!! Now, with that being said, his offense sucks……lollll…….(Well, maybe sucks is too hard of a word---”below average” for a Florida team)….He won’t have super-star kicker Caleb Sturgis this year to bail him out with 55yd winning field goals; who’s now the starter kicker for the Miami Dolphins. The Gators must find the end zone this year in order to enjoy the same amount of success they had last year….Now, as far as Toledo goes,,,,, they have two outstanding seniors coming back QB Owens and RB Fluellen….They came up short of winning the MAC last year but are a very good offensive team….Florida got a scare last year in their opening game with Bowling Green (MAC team)…..The Gators won the game but it was close 27-14. I would look for a similar result in this year’s match up with Toledo…Gator win but do not cover 35-14!!!
Mississippi State Bulldogs (+12.5 pt DOG) @ #13 Oklahoma State Cowboys… (Neutral site – at Houston)
Let’s step back in time for just for a second…….Miss State (7-0) vs. Bama (7-0)………SHOWDOWN!!!!! then the BEATDOWN (Bama 38-7)…I BELIEVE----that the Bulldogs were a victim of their 2012 schedule!!! ….It was a blessing and a curse; all rolled up into one!!!…..It’s not the players fault though, the schedule is the schedule; but some of the weaker teams played early covered up some of the weakness that the Bulldogs obviously had in 2012…..#1 No Pass Rush; #2 Tyler Russell’s decision making; #3 Dan Mullen’s choice of personnel in key situations (BTW—You can change your QB after his 4th interception of the 1st half----just sayin’ plus on 3rd or 4th and short----yeah, yeah, yeah, I know you recruited Perkins and he’s your trophy and everything but there’s a reason they call Josh Robinson the “Bowling Ball”!!!(Ask around)…If the Bulldogs can find an answer to these problems then they will find themselves back playing in another bowl game in 2013. On a side note---If the Dawgs do make it to a bowl game this year, it will be 4-in-a row for the DAWGS!!! (1st time in school history)……Ohhhhhhh, did I mention the Mississippi State Bulldogs open the season with #13 Oklahoma State Cowboys???….So, what’s that old sayin’??? I hate to be the bearer of bad news------sooooo, please don’t shoot the messenger!!! Cowboys win and cover 38-24!!!
Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns (-11 pt DOG) @ Arkansas Razorbacks…
Arkansas’s first year head coach Bret Bielema first job assignment should be to stop the bleeding from the train wreck that just happen last season(Well, in this case, the motorcycle wreck!!!)….Coach Bielema was hugely successful at Wisconsin and is a “meat and potato” guy!!!...He likes to run the ball and play smash mouth football…….So, this year is probably going to be a transition for the Hawgs but it won’t take them long to be back on top. This coach is the real deal!!! No doubt, he can coach but so can most of your SEC coaches…..This game is no gimme because on the other side of the field there’s an outstanding proven winner by the name Mark Hudspeth which is probably going to be the next head coach at Mississippi State when the Dan Mullen’s era ends………..I give the edge to the home team!!! Razorbacks win and do not cover 24-21!!!
#1 Alabama Crimson Tide (-19.5 pt FAV) @ Virginia Tech Hokies…… (Neutral site – at Atlanta)
I heard Nick Satan singin’ a familiar tune the other day and it sounded like this----“You put your right foot in, you put your right foot out, you put your right foot in(to Beamer’s butt )and you shake all about….You do the Hokie Pokie and you turn yourself around….and that’s what it’s all about!!!”…..I said it last year and I’ll say it again this year----“Bama is going to win the National Championship again this year!!!”…..Nick Satan who sold his soul to the devil for national football titles will set out on a new venture with the same result. (National Title)….But, there is score he wants to settle; that is, beating the man that came to his house and beat him-----Johnny Manziel!!!!.....What little Nicky doesn’t know is; what deal did the devil and Johnny Manziel work out!!!.........Despite finishing strong, the Hokies were average last year in the ACC…..They do have one college football’s best winning “away records” at 71.43%!!! But, the Crimson Tide will be too high when it rolls into Atlanta and when it washes out it will carry the Virginia Tech dreams of winning with it…..The Tide rolls up another win and covers 38-17!!!
Austin Peay Governors (+51 pt DOG) @ Tennessee Volunteers……..
Austin Peay-----Governors???? The school is named after former Tennessee Governor Austin Peay, a Clarksville, TN native….The mascot is supposed to be the spitting image of the governor, but he looks more like a bastard love child produced from a love triangle involving Colonel Rebel, the Monopoly Guy and the Demon Deacon from Wake Forrest!!!!(Check him out).....YIKES!!.....Well, Tennessee Fans, I have some good news and some bad news….1st you have 8 returning starters on defense-----Umm, that’s the bad news!!!...lolllll..…The Vols gave up an average of 35.7 points per game last year and they ended up be nationally ranked 107thout of 122 teams…..Not- So -Good....Ok, now for the good news, Tennessee got a new head coach (Butch Jones) plus in 2012 the VOLS finished second in the SEC in passing offense! Wait a minute,,, QB Tyler Bray left early to go the NFL, so, you don’t have him this year!!! Opps, my bad! Well, at least you got a good coach!!!!....Well, then again, your last four hires didn’t pan out either!!! Ok, Ok, Ok, now for the really good news----------YOUR PLAYING AUSTIN PEAY WHO FINISHED 2-9 LAST YEAR!!!...You gonna win!!!...Volunteers win and do not cover 55-10!!
Washington State Cougars (+14.5 pt DOG) @ Auburn Tigers……
Watching the Auburn football team play last year was kinda like watching the first part of a slow movie that never got better!!!! Basically, I think there was such a mental letdown from going from National Champion to a struggling .500 team that the players, coaches and fans pretty much gave up on the entire season!!!! Or maybe,,,,, just maybe,,,, Auburn did pay Cam Newton’s dad big bucks to go to Auburn!!!.........and last year was just KARMA evening the score!!!….Who knows???…….Anyhoooo, Gus Malzahn is the new head coach at Auburn and with his “No Huddle, Hurry Up” approach to football; Auburn should see improvements immediately!!! Coach Malzahn is a good coach plus he was the brains behind the play calling for Cam Newton. (Ok,,,, how hard was that????)………Anyone remember Mike Leach??? The Coach that got fired from Texas Tech for locking Craig James’s son up in a locker during practice because the doctor ordered him to stay out of the light due to a concussion???? That would be Washington State’s head football coach now!!!! Tigers win and cover 28-10!!!
Kentucky Wildcats (- 4.5 pt FAV) @ Western Kentucky Hilltoppers…..
Ever notice the Hilltoppers logo on the side of their helmet---It’s a hand holding a rag with the letters WKU????….Nicccccccccce!!!(NOT) Hey, Western Kentucky, I got an idea for a new helmet logo design……How about this; ^^^^^^^^^^^ Hey, look it’s a bunch of hills and you can only see the tops of them!!!! It must be Hilltoppers!!!.........Geezz Louise, who comes up with this stuff!!! Western Kentucky may have a crappy logo but they have a big time coach, Bobby Petrino….I think we all know what Boobie Bobby is famous for-----and it ain’t his motorcycle driving skills!!!! And on the other side of the field, Kentucky hired Mark Stoops which is the brother of Bob Stoops (Oklahoma Sooners head coach)….Mark Stoops has zero experience as a head coach but does have an impressive defensive coordinating record. He had success at Arizona and recently at Florida State. Not sure he’s going to have the same talent level to work with at Kentucky (insert sarcasm) and a lot of times a “good” defensive coordinator does not automatically translate into “good” head coach….It's a risky hire for Kentucky but what other choice do they have???? Kentucky can no longer hide behind their basketball and say----“It’s just too hard to recruit football players in Kentucky when your rivals Louisville is making a splash on the national scene with both football and basketball and now Western Kentucky is trying to climb your hill(pun intended).Hilltoppers win straight out & shouldn’t need the spread 28-24!!!
Murray State Racers (+38 pt DOG) @ Missouri Tigers…..
Mizzou went from playing in 7 straight bowl games to finishing 5-7 last year……Hey Missouri, Welcome to the SEC!!!!....I’m still struggling to accept Missouri has a SEC school….They are my red-headed step child of the SEC!!!!.....Murray State has a respectable coaching staff; just not the talent to compete with a very experienced Missouri team…..Mizzou wins and covers 55-14!!!
#5 Georgia Bulldogs (-1.5 pt FAV) @ #8 Clemson Tigers……
This game is going to be tighter than spandex on a sumo wrestler…..It’s goin’ be tight!!! This year’s Bulldog team is quite possibly, Coach Richt’s most talented team since coming to Georgia. Aaron Murray has a chance to become only the third player in FBS history to pass for 3,000 yards in four straight seasons…..the Dawgs lost 9 defensive starters from last year---So, the only question I have is,,,,,, How fast can this Georgia’s defense come together and gel???? With an early brutal schedule, the Dawgs don’t have the luxury of time!!!......Clemson, on the other hand, has a fellow that ain't too shabby. QB Tajh Boyd’s passing yards and passing TD numbers are almost identical to Murrays from last year.…..Tajh Boyd is a lock for the ACC Player of the Year with a good season but he could make a huge Heisman statement by taking care of Georgia….Clemson definitely has room to grow on defense, but the big question for me,,,,, Did they find a replacement for the Right and Left Offensive Tackle??? If not, QB Tajh Boyd might lead the ACC in rushing this year!!!.....Here’s how I see it----The Tigers are coming into this game as the underdog. They really have nothing to lose!!!(A lost to Georgia doesn’t hurt them at all)…But most important---They get Georgia at Death Valley!!!...Clemson wins straight out and should not need the spread 33-31!!!
#12 LSU Tigers (-4 pt FAV) @ #20 TCU Horned Frogs…….(Neutral site – at Arlington, TX)
I don’t know if anyone from TCU watches a lot of Duck Dynasty but if you do, you might want to give your team’s mascot trainer a heads up!!! 50,000 drunken hungry Cajuns will eat anything with hot sauce! So, Mr. Horned Frog trainer---BEWARNED!!!....LSU teams are known for their great defenses. They had 8 defensive players get drafted to the NFL last year….So they’re in a rebuilding year,,,, right? Wrong! LSU has defensive players stacked like cords of wood……Defensively, they won’t miss a beat and if QB Zach Mettenberger gets “HOT” this season they could easily make a run on the west side…TCU is well coached and has a balanced offensive…They are very competitive and won’t get blown out! But that don’t matter!!!.........Depth will be LSU’s friend in the 4th quarter!!!!
